.KEY MESSAGES...

* Outside of a 15 to 20% chance of isolated showers in the Sierra
  crest this afternoon, dry conditions will continue through the end
  of the week for southern Nevada, northwestern Arizona, and
  southeastern California.

* Temperatures will gradually warm throughout the week with warmer
  than normal temperatures returning later in the week.

.DISCUSSION...through the weekend.

Troughing across the Southwestern US will result in dry
southwesterly flow across southern Nevada, northwestern Arizona,
and southeastern California, which will help dry conditions
persist for through the week for most of the region. The one
exception to this will be the Sierra Crest, where there is around
a 15 to 20% chance for isolated showers and thunderstorms this
afternoon. These low precipitation chances are a result of a a
shortwave off the coast of California shifting inland and
resulting in upslope flow on the windward side of the Sierra. This
upslope flow will provide enough lift for weak showers and
thunderstorms to develop across the crest of the Sierra. Outside
of the Sierra crest the only evidence of this shortwave will be
breezy southerly winds this afternoon.

Increasing 500 mb heights will allow for temperatures to gradually
warm up throughout the week with warmer than normal temperatures
returning during the second half of the week. Temperatures a few
degrees above normal will result in Moderate (Level 2 of 4) HeatRisk
spreading across much of the region over the weekend. This level of
heat will impact anyone without access to proper cooling and/or
adequate hydration as well as heat sensitive individuals. Those
planning on recreating outdoors this weekend should keep an eye on
forecast temperatures and take steps to mitigate adverse heat
impacts (e.g., taking extra water and sports drinks with you,
putting on sunscreen, and wearing light colored and lightweight
clothes).

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 18Z Forecast Package...South-
southeast winds are expected this afternoon at all the valley TAF
sites, with a high chance (80%) for wind speeds over 10KT and a
moderate chance (60%) for gusts over 20KT. Strongest winds should be
centered around 00Z this evening. Winds will become south between
between 00Z-03Z at which time gusts should end and speeds will drop
to 8-10KT. If winds transition to the south at earlier vs later,
southerly gusts to around 15KT are possible until about 02Z when all
gusts will end. Typical wind trends are expected overnight. Winds on
Tuesday will be similar to today but not as strong as frequent gusts
are not likely. Uncertainty exists in the wind direction Tuesday
afternoon as either south-southwest or south-southeast winds set up.
VFR conditions are expected through the period. Haze is possible
this afternoon due to smoke, however surface smoke and visibility
reductions are not expected.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwestern Arizona and
southeastern California...For the 18Z Forecast Package...Breezy
south to southeast winds are expected this afternoon with widespread
gusts of 15-25KT expected. The exception will be KDAG, where
directions will remain mainly westerly through the TAF period, with
gusts to around 25KT expected after 23Z. Low chance that KBIH sees a
push of gusty west winds 00Z-02Z, however most likely southeast
winds will transition to the north this evening per typical wind
patterns. Lighter winds are expected tonight before south winds
increase again Tuesday late morning and afternoon. Winds on Tuesday
should be lighter than today. Showers will develop this afternoon on
the Sierra crest but will not impact nearby valleys other than some
SCT-BKN CIGs around 10kft at KBIH this afternoon. VFR conditions
should prevail across the region through the TAF period. Haze from
regional wildfires may result in reduced slantwise visibilities
throughout the day across the Mojave Desert.
